About us

We are a young company that started in the rural world a few years ago. In 2020, after a tough lockdown and a quarantine that we will all remember forever, we decided to leave Valencia capital, where we lived, and live in the village house of my ancestors, Chóvar, a small village belonging to the Alto Palancia region, located south of the province of Castellón and north of Valencia; and there create a family to start a new life, a new rural life.

First we decided to renovate the house and turn it into a rural house for rural tourism. Then we thought about using the spaces and rooms for digital nomads and teleworkers, while we thought about offering more services to the rural world and others related to our corporate insignia, beekeeping and the world of bees.

Our
Commitment

We firmly believe in the rural world, and through our various projects we want to encourage its repopulation and demand the maintenance of the values and principles inherent to it.

We firmly believe that we must return to our origins, get back in touch with nature and the countryside, and re-humanize ourselves again.

We believe that the best way to do this is by making the wonderful world of bees and beekeeping known and by supporting a rural life.

Excellent atmosphere, very good service and it is not difficult to get to the place”.

HISTORY OF
EL COLMENAR

The place has a great history behind it. It was built by our ancestors several centuries ago on large arches of rodeno stone, typical substrate of the area and of the entire mountain range that delimits the town of Chóvar with the surrounding villages that make up the "Sierra Espadán"; a unique mountain range in the entire Mediterranean basin due to the large forests of cork oaks and holm oaks that make it up.

My family, founder of this house, has always dedicated itself to the countryside for its livelihood, and in particular to the world of beekeeping, hence the name "El Colmenar" and the entire theme of the house, original and unique, which makes staying there a whole experience.

The profession of beekeeping is in our blood, or well, we were... until I was born, the creator of this place along with my wife and my son.

It was when I was 2 years old that my father took me for the first time to one of the apiaries he had in Cervera del Maestre, a town located in the north of the province of Castellón. It was there that I was stung by the first bee. My father was proud of me. I endured the sting of that bee like a champion, without any more drama than necessary, with only a few tears that lasted a few moments, more or less the time it took for the red rash to disappear from the area affected by the sting, in other words, nothing. My family could be happy, I would be the next generation of beekeepers in the family, the tradition would continue!

It was at the age of 4 when I was stung by another bee, for the second time in my short life. But this time it was all very different. Obviously I don't remember anything, just like the last time, but as my parents told me afterwards, I ended up in hospital with anaphylactic shock and with another injection, this time with Urbason, a corticosteroid effective against severe allergic reactions. The hopes placed in me as a beekeeper had just vanished. Even so, I am not someone who gives up at the first opportunity. Although fate had this in store for me, something inside me told me that I was not going to give up so easily, that one way or another the bees would continue to be a fundamental part of my life, that I had to do something about it...

Where we are

El Colmenar is located in the heart of the Sierra de Espadán natural park. The village is strategically located. It is about 50 km from the city of Valencia (about 40 minutes by car), and about 40 km from the city of Castellón (about 35 minutes by car).

The village has a population of approximately 300 inhabitants.

Chóvar has the only cork oak forest on the entire Valencian Mediterranean Coast; centuries-old cork oaks that hide magical routes and paths of great natural beauty and beautiful views; ideal for lovers of photography, hiking, mountain biking or any other activity in contact with nature.

Some of the best hiking routes in Chovar are: Espadán-Chóvar, Barranco de Ajuez, Nevera de Castro or Barranco de Ajuez-Fuente Fresca - Nevera y Castillo de Castro - Complejos Mineros.
